pilot
house
The
MD Buzzards Bay's classic pilothouse turns inclement weather into
pefect boating days. Her "great room" arrangement
brings the galley up on deck, across from the lounge. With
this layout, no one onboard is too far away for easy communication,
yet each area still has its own space. At anchor, the hero of the
cruise (the cook) is not forgotten, with direct line of sight and
communication to those in the cockpit, lounge, or even those swimming
around the boat, ensuring no one is left out of the fun.
What
makes this pilothouse so enjoyable is the 360 degree panoramic view
that brings the outside in. Allowance for adequate natural
ventilation was a high priority, with four large opening windows,
one overhead hatch, and an aft pilothouse door.
A
well placed spring cleat is easily accessed on the side deck by
sliding open either the port or starboard window, allowing the helmsman
or passenger to handle a spring line without leaving the comfort
and security of the pilothouse. The opening centerline helm window
allows easy communication with those on the foredeck. This makes
anchoring a much safer and less stressful operation.
The
pilothouse is molded as part of the deck, eliminating joints for
increased strength and beauty, while reducing weight.
